On Saturday, November 1, 2014 Erie County Chapter members, family, friends and supporters, witnessed the vow exchange of Albert J. Lewis and Dorothy A. Lissmore held at the VAWNY Healthcare System, Buffalo, NY. Joining their lives as one was a dream fulfilled for the couple after 17 years and knowing that the groom's life was shortened due to a terminal illness.

Three days before the wedding, Link Fern E. Beavers, an advanced practice nurse, had an opportunity to meet the bride to be, to discuss her wedding plans. Fern and Dorothy created a wish list. Some of the items identified included a wedding gown, shoes, bridal veil, bouquet, champagne glasses, apple juice to fill the champagne glasses, cake and cake cutter, decorations, music and food. She also needed bridesmaids. Without hesitating Fern told Dorothy she would be honored to be her bridesmaid adding that her Link Sister, Gladys Diji, would serve as her other bridesmaid. Fern immediately contacted chapter president, Joyce Harrington and shared Dorothy's story.

The chapter provided the wedding gown, food and supplies for the toast. The compassion and generosity shown by the chapter can best be described by a quote from…Winston Churchill – We make a living not by what we get, but we make a life by what we give."
